Meet Drone Pilot Monica Gragg

January is National Mentoring Month so we’re launching our Drone Maven Monday series with a quick Q&A with Monica Gragg, Black Women Drone Co-Founder and FAA Certified Drone Pilot.

What made you get into the drone industry?

Initially, my sister and I thought it would be something fun we could do together. Once we saw the gender and race gap, we wanted to be more intentional about our new hobby.

How do you use your drone – recreationally or commercially?

We use it for both!

What piece of advice would you give to youth interested in the drone industry?

You don’t need an expensive drone to get started. We recommend the Mavic Mini, Spark, or Tello. There are many sub-categories within the industry. Take the Black Women Drone Career Guide to see which one is right for you.

At Black Girl Drone World, we use the power of our collective voice to recruit new mentors to encourage girls of color to join the drone industry. Are you a drone maven? Sign-up to volunteer as a Black Girl Drone World Mentor today.
