On September 21st, the Sisters of Heritage Service Unit of the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta had the incredible opportunity to celebrate Girls in Aviation Day with Black Girl Drone World. The day was made even more special thanks to Roxane Romulus, Black Girl Drone World Founder and CEO, who led an engaging and inspiring introductory class on drones for our middle school girls.
From the moment the event kicked off, the excitement in the room was palpable. Roxane’s passion for drones and her commitment to introducing young girls to this exciting field shone through. The program exceeded all expectations, offering a comprehensive look at the world of flight tailored specifically for our 6th graders.
Roxane’s teaching style was a perfect blend of tactile and auditory learning. She skillfully guided the girls through the four stages of flight, and the highlight of the day was definitely the hands-on experience where each girl built her own drone to take home. By the end of the event, the air was buzzing with the sound of drones flying—an exhilarating sight that left everyone smiling.
What truly set this experience apart was Roxane’s genuine dedication to empowering the girls. She not only introduced them to the mechanics of drones but also connected the dots between their current interests and potential career paths. Roxane emphasized that entrepreneurship can start at any age, encouraging the girls to think about how they could turn their newfound drone skills into a future revenue stream. Her relatable insights, especially in the context of their experience with cookie sales, resonated deeply and sparked excitement about the possibilities.
The girls left the event not just with knowledge, but with inspiration to explore their creativity and entrepreneurial spirit through the lens of drone technology. It was gratifying to witness their enthusiasm and to hear them express interest in continuing their journey in flight.
A heartfelt thank you to Roxane Romulus and Black Girl Drone World for making this event a memorable one. Her contribution has opened new horizons for our girls and instilled a sense of empowerment that will last well beyond the event.
We look forward to seeing where this journey takes our girls in the future!
